How Hard Should We Push our Team: Leading with Wisdom & Compassion
It was Wednesday morning, after a back to back call. I was reviewing a 5-page summary report of a direct report over zoom, both of our cameras off. As we went over the pages, I could feel my frustration rising. My disappointment was clearly showing from my tone. Having high expectation, I critically expressed, “Your work is lacking in effort. Disorganized. Unsupported by data. Are you even trying?” I was being very hard, falsely criticizing the person rather than the work.
